Forestry faculty students on field lessons about erosion and torrents

May 17, 2024

In cooperation with the Faculty of Forestry in Belgrade, the Centre for Ecology and Sustainable Development (CEKOR) joined the organization of this year's field lessons for students specializing in dealing with erosion and torrent issues. The aim of the field lessons is for students to gain practical knowledge and insights into the management of torrential flows and works in watersheds, as well as the transfer of experience in this field from older experts to younger ones.

Representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) joined the field lessons in Mokra Gora during the tour of the Kamisna River. On this occasion, students and other participants learned how this torrential river was regulated to defend against floods, according to a conceptual project and solution in which experts from the Faculty of Forestry participated. Mokra Gora was the last destination of the field lessons, and students and their professors previously visited Uzice, Zlatibor, and Ivanjica.

“Towards a flood- and drought-resistant Serbia” wishes to encourage raising awareness as well as activities preserving valuable and sensitive areas endangered by water erosion in the hilly-mountainous region of Serbia. This initiative is implemented within the project "EU for Serbia Resilient to Disasters", which is financed by the European Union and implemented by UNDP.
